“You know the reason Christopher Kane’s dresses are so short?” She asked. “It’s because he’s poor. He can’t afford to waste a single inch of fabric, and everything needs to be mini.” She raised this point during Louise Goldin’s show, when the young designer’s knits barely covered her models’ butts. - Via Fashionista.com
During my fashion school days, the mean girls would predict and make fun of another’s collection for being too sexy and one-dimensional. It’s not because they couldn’t afford the fabric, but their patternmaking and sewing skills were so hopeless, they rather not stray far from their comfort zone.
One ex-classmate is this arrogant beach-bitch who particularly favors ultra mini skirt. She surprised us with a rather voluminous collection comprising of all dresses. It’s only later that we found out her true intentions behind dresses was…
1) All dresses means only 6 pieces in her collection. If one is doing layered separates, they may have to sew up to 16 pieces for their collection (pants, short, tee, shirt, jackets, etc).
2) Her idea of voluminous means Gathers. Cut rectangular pieces, sew a line of elastic through one side. Ta-da!
It goes without saying, many were pissed as hell to find out that beach-bitch was awarded top mark by an incompetent ex-lecturer, for on-time submission. (Duh, so easy to make.)
