Little Dowager

The shirt girl is the antithesis of the sweater girl, who is all tease, impenetrable lipstick and the smug summary of much adolescent angst. The shirt girl is simply undone. Her hair has betrayed her, with its telltale tangles; she might have mascara smudged sleepily under her eyes; and she likes croissants and crossword puzzles for breakfast. She sometimes likes to go back to bed in the afternoons. She likes strong coffee, and she likes to laugh. She smells good, old-fashioned.

Victoria’s Secret yall!

Even better when I don’t have to pick up the tab. Still annoyed that the ultra-uber sexy one does not have my size. Arghghghg.

My first date wardrobe decisions should not be based on, how easily my clothes can be removed.

It should be chic, feminine, classy and sweet. Not boobylicious, clingy, attention seeking.

I may be dating a Filipino, but I am no Filipina!

But why oh why do I wanna wear that sexy muji top so much?! -_-

Rant, Shopping/fashion8 January, 2008

Local fashion buyers seems to think that Singaporean women have a sick obsession with cap sleeves, puff sleeves and 3/4 sleeves.

And that our office wear shirts must be stripes, in either black or white, often with lurex (metallic, for the uninitiated) yarns woven into the material. And the shirts should have fussy frills and uninspiring pintucks going all over it.

And the length! Don’t even get me started on the unflattering length of the shirt. I very much prefer my shirt to be longer, and covering my belt/muffin top please.

I love my shirts and I wouldn’t consider myself to be an overtly adventurous dresser. But it’s frustrating to go shop after shop, and find the same damn style repeated over and over again. And it’s not even a "trend". It’s more like, uninspired uniform designing for the mass market.

Hello Baby.

You were totally out of my league, but damn, you looked good.

I probably have to eat grass next week, but I do hope I have enough to last me through the month.

I bought a silk blouse last week and I decided to wash it first before I wear it.

However, I know nothing about caring for silk clothings. Coming from a fashion graduate, I ought to know but I don’t - Silk is just not my fabric, I very much preferred to deal with knits.

However, silk has taught me 5 things:

1) Best worn without perfumery 2) Always handwash yourself. Gently, with mild soap. 3) Always iron yourself. Low heat with steam/slightly damp, on reverse side. 4) Do not tug at the fabric while ironing/wet. It will be hard to reverse the shape back. 5) Skip step 1-4, send it to a dry cleaner if you’re rich.

Thank god it still looks wearable after experimenting.

Next up on my list: WOOL!

I know I just got a techie toy (ipod!) earlier this month. But I really *need* to change my handphone, especially when I discovered the wonky joystick of my SE608i mysteriously sent 200 over SMSes someone name A******. In the middle of the night. I’m sure she is not amused.

But Thank god it’s just sms. Cos I really don’t need 500 free sms every month.

The camera is just 2 megapixel with fix focus, 32 mb internal memory. But it comes with a 256mb memory card. I’m not really wowed about the design (especially the black with red, the back design), but for $0 I really shouldn’t complain. At least the joystick looks solid.

This my friend, has 3.2MP, with auto focus and xenon flash. Every camphone addict’s dream phone.

I totally adore the smart looking grey blue, the round buttons, the slide camera cover on the back… But I totally hate the joystick.

They always turn wonky after a while.

This is a phone I would pay $200 for, that is if I have a disposable $200 lying around.

This is quite the pretty phone isn’t it? Usually I only like one colour scheme, but I really adore both colour for this model. Especially the black/wine one on the left.

But it only has 2 mega pixel camera, without camera light. Considering that it hasn’t release in SG yet, I bet it going to cost slightly more than other models with similar functions.

It’s about time SE move on into producing phones with at least 3.2MP WITH camera light/flash.

Very cute button; Would be my first choice if it is available right now.

Musings, Shopping/fashion3 December, 2007

I’m very much a pen/pencil and paper kinda girl.

I’m usually too slow with technology to quickly note down something I just thought of. Besides, somethings as fleeting as inspiration, just can’t be captured in words or by camera as easily. So I draw. I draw a dress I just saw on the street. I draw a silhouette of a person who just alight from the bus. If it goes by too fast, I try to remember 3 things about it and note it down nonetheless.

A drawing pad that went through a lot with me, recently fell apart. The spine disintegrated, and my paper scattered through the front and back. The last week I took it out to a Cotton Inc seminar, it was threatening to spill my doodling out for the world to see. And the world there were full of designers and fashion insiders. I wasn’t sure where I stood in that crowd, but I tried my best to look the part.

I’ve always wanted to get a moleskine, but could never bring myself to splash the cash. Everytime I go notebook shopping, I skip the moleskine on purpose, cos I tell myself it’s too insane to spend $30+ on a note book. So I walk over to Muji instead. The second time, I walk away with a thick gridded lookalike from Paperchase; one that sets me back $10 only. It is a bit too tiny to sketch on it though.

So do I really need the Moleskine? Honestly I don’t, but I want it. It makes everything you draw or write, just a little bit more special. Who doesn’t want to feel special?
